Speaking of Locavores, FoodTV.ca is launching a new series April 5th. The town of Mission, BC has taken on the challenge to eat only food produced within 100 miles. Six families will be partaking in the challenge. James MacKinnon and Alisa Smith, globally known for their work in the local food movement, host the series.

Last night’s episode two of The Great Food Revolution introduced me to a new term – Locavore. Basically a locavore is one who eats food that is grown or produced locally within 50, 100, or 150 miles. The idea being that it encourages local farmers to keep their land in production and cuts down on the greenhouse gases used to bring produce from halfway across the world.

Michelle Obama, the wonderful FLOTUS, has taken this principle to heart. Today, she broke ground on the White House vegetable garden.

This is the main reason that I want to sell my condo and get a townhouse. I want a backyard!

What do you think of becoming a locavore?
