Bank of Canada sets stage for printing money – Canada – Canoe.ca

The Bank of Canada is concerned that the recession will be much more severe and longer lasting than what is being portrayed by Stephen Harper’s government. They are looking to become active in the bond market, buying up government and corporate bonds to put more money into the system. Credit markets in Canada are still tight and financing has increased in cost and decreased in availability.
The bank says Canada will begin to recover next year with a growth rate of 2.5 per cent, but in the meantime will suffer a devastating recession that surprisingly will be deeper than that in the United States, the epicentre and cause of most of the problems.

Greg makes an interesting commentary on the state of the nation (and the polls). It looks like a the PCs are falling and can’t get up.
Other than the PM and a few of his loyal pompom shakers, few Canadians in the know continue to pretend the economy is going to reverse its current death spiral anytime soon.
Ever since Michael Ignatieff became Liberal leader in the infamous bloodless coup before Christmas, the Harper braintrust has been waiting for the Grits to screw up.
Instead, Ignatieff has wisely spent his time bringing money, talent and discipline to his party, keeping a relatively low profile, and leaving Harper and Co. to get run over by the economy.

CARE Canada – a leading aid and development organisation fighting global poverty

Have you ever donated to a charity and wished your money could do more? CARE Canada and the Government of Canada make it possible. Any CAREGift purchased before Easter will be tripled by the Canadian Government. Why not reach out and buy 2 chickens to help someone feed themselves and make some money at the same time? CARE will distribute 8 chickens to needy people across the globe.
I just bought:
- Send a Child to School for a Year $36.00
- Skills training for an Afghan woman $48.00
- Launch a Savings & Loans Group $54.00
- Bring health education to a vulnerable community $32.00
Oh, and don’t forget to claim the charitable donation on next year’s Income Tax form. The government will give some of your donation back.
